Big Motoring Worlds Car of the Week: Mini Cooper S
The Mini. A classic name steeped in heritage. A common and popular sight on Britains roads, the Mini is a favourite with motorists and it’s not hard to see why. Fun and funky styling combined with a capable chassis which is not only fun to drive but comfortable too. To that end, we are delighted to offer for sale this fantastic Cooper S variant.
Finding it’s initial fame in the ’60s the original Mini set the mould for what a hatchback should be. It should be fun, practical, be enjoyable to drive and be able to have enough space to handle the day to day tasks that life throws at us. Since then, the Mini has stayed true to this philosophy. Production of the Mini was broken at the backend of the ‘90s and late 2000s after Rover sold the moniker to BMW, but it was back and reborn in earnest in late 2001.
What returned was the Mini that we know and love today. Bringing the Mini up to date whilst retaining its retro styling, BMW thrust this brand into the 21st century and has gone from strength to strength since. Now on to its third generation, the Mini is a firm favourite and this example is a great expression of the breed.
First off, let's take a moment to appreciate that styling. Those big and round headlights, a throwback to the original, the bonnet stripes, fog lamps and chrome coloured fuel filler all scream retro cool and what's more, it’s all packaged together in a neat and tidy three-door body. Finished in Volcanic Orange, the exterior appeal is completed with the addition of gloss black contrasting multispoke alloy wheels.
Open the driver's door and step inside this machine and you’re transported to a cockpit that just oozes retro cool. Featuring a round central binnacle, a nod to Mini’s of old, and prominently place standalone rev and speed counters the cabin of this Cooper S is a fun place to be. Add to the mix retro style toggle switches, a full dual coloured cloth and part leather upholstery, with tasteful white contrasting stitching and you have a beautifully specified interior.
It’s not just the visuals though that sell this car. With this car, you will discover a wealth of features and these include the following to name just a few, Part Leather, Variable Damper Control, Bluetooth, Parking Sensors, 17" Alloy Wheels, USB Interface, Aux Input and the John Cooper Works sports leather steering wheel. This Mini also comes specified with the highly sought after Chili pack.
From a powertrain point of view, this Mini Cooper S comes with a 2.0-Litre petrol engine and sees an automatic transmission. Being the Cooper S variant, naturally, power is increased and this car sees 189 bhp. This translates to a standstill to 62 mph time of 6.7 seconds.
Covering just 38,952 miles from new and benefitting from seeing just one former keeper, this Mini Cooper S is available now and comes with service history.
