Big Motoring Worlds Car of the Week: Mini Cooper S
It’s a motoring icon and a car that has a fond place in many people hearts. Whether it was your first car, you learnt to drive in one or just admired it’s classic lines from a distance, it’s hard not to fall in love with the Mini and it’s a car that changed the face of car design forever.
Faced with fuel rationing, manufacturers were changing their approach to producing, smaller more fuel-efficient cars back in the 1950s. Many manufacturers brought out their own cars but the Mini was one of a minority that got the recipe right.
Gaining instant acclaim, it quickly became a popular sight on Britains roads and also found fame on the big screen thanks to its starring role in classic crime caper, The Italian Job. Later on in its life, it also found great success in world motorsport as it became an underdog hero taking championships and victories in the British Touring Car Championship and the World Rally Championship.
Bringing the story right up to date however is this 2015 (15) Mini Cooper S. Taking design inspiration from the original, the new Mini, whilst being larger, manages to retain that charm and visual appeal of the original and this particular example looks fantastic finished in its Thunder Grey paintwork which is complemented beautifully by it’s contrasting, silver-coloured alloy wheels.
The Cooper S has a more sporting stance and this is noticeable thanks to that large bonnet scoop. Additional contrasting chrome coloured detailing also adds definition and can be found on the grille, along the bottom of the windows and on the front wings.
Inside the nods to its retro-inspired past continues where you’ll be greeted by comfortable black leather upholstery which adorns the cabin throughout. Retro style dials and switches complete the look as does that imposing central binnacle which houses some great technology features. Gloss piano black trim and chrome detailing provides for a contemporary edge and all come together to make this Mini a fantastic place to be.
Visuals aside, this car also comes with some great features and this includes the likes of the Chili Pack, Panoramic Roof, Full Leather, Harman Kardon, Heated Seats, Variable Damper Control, Bluetooth, Sports Seats, 17" alloy wheels, DAB Radio, USB Interface, Aux Input, Multi-Function Steering Wheel, Electric Windows, Push Button Start and all-important Alloy Wheels.
