Discover The New Peugeot 508 High-Performance Hybrid Concept
It could be argued that Peugeot may have lost their way over recent years, however, at the recent Geneva Motor Show, there were hints at a potential renaissance from the illustrious French manufacturer.
Meet the Peugeot 508 High-Performance Hybrid Concept. On display at the recent Geneva Motor Show, this high-performance variant is built upon the new 508 and offers a tantalising glimpse at what Peugeot could be producing in the not so distant future.
Visually it takes the already striking 508 and add’s a further dimension of sportiness, thanks in part to those dramatically profiled indicator and headlight clusters, which give this thing the look of a venomous snake, the contrasting coloured brake callipers and deeply profiled grille just above the front apron.
Whilst the recent product range coming out of the French manufacturer's production facilities could have been dubbed more on the bland side, we’re happy to report that there is no hint of that in their latest creation.
With style aside, what about substance? How does this car fare to its likely opponents? First, let's start with the headlines. With a power output muted to be around 400bhp, it already stakes a strong claim, but what produces this power?
Lifting the bonnet you’ll find a turbocharged 1.6-litre PureTech petrol engine which on its own is capable of delivering a respectable 197bhp. Dig a little deeper and you’ll discover this machines party piece.
Driving the front and rear wheels are two independent electric motors. The first of which drives the front wheels and can deliver 108 bhp. The second motor drives the rear axle and can deliver a power output of 197 bhp. Not only does this translate to some impressive power output figures, but it also means that all four wheels have the capability to be driven simultaneously.
Peugeot has claimed that a standstill to 62 mph time of 4.3 seconds is possible whilst an ultimate top speed comes at 155 mph. All this is very impressive for a five-door saloon and what is more impressive is the lengths of detail that Peugeot has gone to.
Inside you’ll find racing bucket seats, revised dashboard architecture and an interior that is lavishly upholstered in swathes of comfortable leather and Alcantara. It’s also on the receiving end of the latest in Peugeots digital technology and comes with the latest infotainment systems.
Based on the upcoming petrol hybrid electric variant of the 508, which is due in a couple of years, the 508 High-Performance Hybrid Concept may well be closer to reality than we may think.
