Mercedes Benz A45 S At Goodwood

The Goodwood Festival of Speed has recently become a hotbed for car launches as the world's manufacturers increasingly choose the venue to showcase their latest machines to the paying public. In a wave of manufacturers vying for buyers attention one particular car stood out and that car comes in the form of the all-new Mercedes Benz A-Class A45 S.

Standing out for more reasons other than it’s paint job, although love it or hate, it’s hard not to like the A45 dressed in its development camouflage livery, the Mercedes Benz A45 S is the continuation of a range of recent hot hatches from Mercedes-Benz.

A relative latecomer into the hot hatch space, the German marques didn’t have a proper bonafide hot hatch until only recently.

With the return of the updated, and fit for 21st-century consumption, A-Class came a platform that was fully befitting of a performance-focused edge. Based upon the critically acclaimed A-Class chassis the A45 S takes all of the ingredients that makes the everyday hatch so popular and packages them into a car that is at home on a circuit when the going gets competitive.

Now onto its fourth generation, the A-Class has been significantly refined over the years and whilst the latest incarnation isn’t a sea change on the model it replaces, it does still feature some new styling additions.

Let's take a look at these by addressing what Mercedes-Benz has done at the front end. New is a more curved and flowing front apron. This is now becoming apparent across the rest of the Mercedes-Benz range and gives all current cars that subtle refresh that they craved.

With the A45 S, you get a more heavily profiled AMG style grille which is more akin to what you’d find on the AMG GT. It has real poise this new A45 and the refreshes really do this car justice. With curved and flowing elements at the front of the car, this design philosophy is also matched at the rear. Whilst not too dissimilar in proportions, this new car certainly looks like it possesses a more aggressive stance.

But enough of the style, what about what really counts in the power department? Well nestled under that bonnet is an engine capable of producing 416bhp from its 2.0-litre capacity. To put the cherry on the top of what is an already is delicious recipe is how fast 0-62 mph falls in a mere 3.9 seconds.

The new Mercedes-Benz A45 S is a true hot hatch and one we cannot wait to see on Britains roads.
